Transistor kills the radio star?

iRadio como alternativa ao satélite

"(...) Motorola announced plans Tuesday to launch iRadio later this year. The service features 435 commercial-free radio channels for about $7 per month, nearly half the monthly $12.95 fee XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio charge for about 120 channels.

"Motorola iRadio is truly a revolution in digital radio, offering more choice, higher audio quality than satellite radio and features that allow listeners to identify and purchase the music they like," said Mike Gaumond, vp and general manager, Motorola Digital Media Services.

Motorola promises radio channels that "break the mold of competing radio services," including more than 40 styles of Rock, 12 Jazz stations, individual artists channels, genre channels for every decade since the 1900s and specialty-themed channels such as 1 Hit Wonders, Angry Women and Rockin’ Cowboys.

Content providers to Motorola include Clear Channel, the nation’s largest radio group, and legendary music artist Graham Nash. Clear Channel plans to produce content for about 75 channels and contribute some of its syndicated programming from Premiere Radio Networks, such as Bob and Tom and Coast to Coast AM.

acrescento: "Radio's real target for cell phone radio is Satellite radio. Here's why: They're both available by subscription. Thus they will target the folks who value portability - at a price. Because if they value portability for free they'll use that most archaic of all gadgets, the portable radio."
